Dr. Paul Gruber began his career in science and mathematics, but in later years he became known as an artist. Gruber was very active in the field of education for

over 40 years. He was an advocate of ecological studies and he completed a science textbook entitled Concepts of Science. He also published many pamphlets on the geology, minerology, and paleontology of Bucks County. One of Gruber's favorite pastimes was conducting field trips with elementary students based on his guidebook on the geological features, past and present, of Bucks County.

Gruber integrated his love of science with his artistic talent and imagination. This resulted in scientific demonstrations that captured the attention of many elementary and middle school students. Gruber was an accomplished amateur painter, whose oil paintings hang in many schools, public buildings, public libraries, and in homes across Bucks County.

The subject matter of Gruber's work is primarily Bucks County scenes, still lifes, and seascapes. In addition, Gruber created ceramic tiles utilizing Pennsylvania Dutch motifs.
