Title I, Part A - programs are designed to improve opportunities for educationally-deprived children. and to help them meet the state content and performance standards in reading, language arts and mathematics.
The Intermediate Unit has contracts with the Bensalem, Bristol Borough, Bristol Township, Centennial, Central Bucks, Pennridge, Pennsbury and Quakertown School Districts to provide remedial reading and/or math to eligible students in nonpublic schools in these districts.
Title I, N & D - assistance for programs that operate educational programs for children and youth in institutions or community day programs for Neglected or Delinquent children. The purpose is to prevent at-risk students from dropping out of school, to complete high school or make progress toward a GED, training or employment program, and to make successful transitions from programs in an institution to further schooling and employment.
The BCIU collaborates with local institutions and community day programs for neglected and/or delinquent children and youth for supplementary programs in reading and mathematics.
Title II, Part A -
Improving Teacher Quality - Federal Funding supports staff development training for teachers to update their skills in mathematics and science. A consortium of public school districts and nonpublic schools participate in this project. Dr. John McGovern coordinates this program.
Title II, Part D -
Educational Technology - Provides funds for developing student-centered technology programs in nonpublic schools. Recent focus has been on use of hand-held computers, digital microscopes, and the integration of technology across the curriculum.
PLEASE NOTE THAT TITLE II-D HAS BEEN A COMPETITIVE GRANT IN 2006-2007 and 2007-2008, AND THE BCIU HAS NO FUNDING TO ADMINISTER IN THIS PROGRAM TO NONPUBLIC SCHOOLS IN THE CURRENT YEAR.
Title V - Through this federally funded program, Bucks County I.U. provides staff development on "best practices" and a series of workshops for new teachers in the Teacher Induction program. Workshops are also offered on other topics as requested by private and parochial school administrators including the PA Standards and the PA System of School Assessment (PSSA). Lindsey Sides coordinates this program.
