Parenting Programs
The Safe and Drug Free Department offers a variety of topical programs for parents
affiliated with Bucks County public and non-public schools in grades K- 12. The
content areas of these programs include alcohol/tobacco/other drug prevention,
violence prevention, and parenting skills. Each of the programs is facilitated
by an Education Specialist and can be tailored to meet the needs of the affiliated
parent group or school. The training can be conducted off-site at a location
within Bucks County. A sampling of the program offerings includes:
- Parent to Parent - A video-based workshop for parents to learn specific
skills in order to raise drug-free and responsible children. This multi-session
program also allows for the exchange of ideas among attending parents.
- How to Raise Responsible Children - Raising responsible children
is difficult in this world where children are immersed in a "toxic culture." Using
a combination of presentation, discussion and video (from the Parent to Parent
curriculum) this program is designed to allow parents to conduct an assessment
of their own enabling vs. empowering behavior, share practical strategies
around raising children and walk away armed with new parenting tips and insight.
- Inhalants - This program is designed to educate
adults on all aspects of inhalants in order to effectively implement a prevention
program
for children. It is a unique offering that provides educational resources
within a prevention framework.
- How to Talk to Your Kids About Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other
Drugs - This
adult education program utilizes common sense strategies and practical
communication tips to help parents speak to their children about drugs.
- Anger Management/Conflict Resolution - "You do not have a choice
about the conflicts that enter your life, but you have a choice about the response." This
adult program is designed to provide information on how to teach children
effective ways to handle everyday conflicts and will demonstrate several
techniques to
promote win/win situations within your family.
- Bullying - Bullying is a severe problem that is often
not taken seriously. This parent program discusses why parents need
to know more about bullying,
the range of behaviors and effects, how to know if your child bullies
or is being bullied, ways to build your child's friendship making
skills and tips to keep the lines of communication open.
