Advisory Councils and Committees

The Act 48 Advisory Council
The Act 48 Advisory Council meets three times throughout each school year as a full committee with subcommittee meetings held as needed. The Council is responsible for assessing the needs of their specific program staff and communicating the workings of the Act 48 Council at regular staff meetings. They also regularly disseminate information on staff development opportunities to their colleagues on relevant workshop options.

The Council is minimally comprised of the following individuals:
1 coordinator (BCIU Director of Professional Edcuation)
1 teacher representative from each program chosen by teachers
1 educational specialist from each program chosen by teachers
2 administrative representatives chosen by administrators
2 parents of children receiving services appointed by BCIU Board
2 local business representatives appointed by BCIU Board
2 community representatives appointed by BCIU Board

Continuing Professional Education Advisory Council
The Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Advisory Council is responsible for examining data and planning for CPE Courses based upon the needs of our constituents. The Council follows strict guidelines for approving proposed courses as outlined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The Council meets three times yearly in order to examine current needs and approve proposed courses.

Specific criteria to be included in CPE Courses as outlined by PDE includes references to:
Adult Learning Theory
Best Practices
Course Title and Description
Statement of Need
Competencies and Competency Development
Performance Standards and Assessment Methods
Evaluation

Leadership Trainers Advisory Council
It is our mission to engage professional development leaders in ongoing dialogue which maximizes student achievement and lifelong learning through collaboration in:

  • Advocating daily application of the NSDC staff development standards
  • Modeling best practices in professional education
  • Showcasing best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Building professional learning communities
