The BCIU#22 Student Art Gallery Reception

March 21, 2017

Although it is still cold outside and winter has not yet released its tight grip, a ray of sunshine and a whole lot of warmth surrounds the Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22 on the evening of the BCIU#22 Student Art Gallery Reception.  This is one special evening in which parents, friends, teachers, and administrators get to witness their student artists receive recognition for having their work displayed throughout the year in the Student Art Gallery, located on the second floor of the 705 Building.

The Student Art Gallery was initiated during the 2003-2004 school year as part of the BCIU#22 Art on the Move program.  Each Bucks County school district and several non-public schools are invited to select one piece of student artwork to include in the gallery for the year.  The BCIU#22 Visual Arts Advisory Council oversees the selection process for each district/school and provides a beautifully framed piece of artwork for the gallery.  At the end of the year, the artwork is then returned to the district with a nameplate indicating that the piece was on display at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit#22.

The gallery is enjoyed by hundreds of educators who attend the many offerings of the Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22 throughout the year. Next year the reception is scheduled for Tuesday, March 21, 2017.

Visual Arts Advisory Council

This Council is comprised of art teachers and art supervisors who are committed to bringing quality art education to their schools. The Council focuses on advocacy issues, shares techniques, projects, and materials, and plans professional development for arts educators.  Specifically,  the Council provides a professional learning opportunity for Bucks County arts educators during the Bucks County Common In-Service Day.

The Council also sponsors the BCIU Student Art Gallery.  The gallery is comprised of student art work, one piece from each of the 13 Bucks County districts and contributing non-public schools.  The selections are on display at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit 22 for an entire school  year.  As part of the honor of having one's artwork selected for the gallery, the Council holds a Student Art Gallery Reception in March for the student artists and their family and friends.  A special program is held in which certificates are awarded to the students for their participation in the Gallery.
