The Early Childhood Services Program
provides Preschool Early Intervention to three to five year old children living in Bucks County. Services are provided to eligible children in locations throughout the county.
Early Intervention Services include developmental screenings, comprehensive evaluations, special instruction, and parent training. Direct services such as individual and small group instruction, special classes, speech, occupational, and physical therapy may be provided to children found to be eligible.
Children who are referred to the Early Childhood Services program will be screened to determine if a comprehensive evaluation should be provided. Screenings occur several times each month in convenient locations throughout Bucks County. All screenings are provided by appointment. A comprehensive evaluation may lead to the finding that a child is exceptional and that Early Intervention should be provided. All information regarding each child referred will be kept strictly confidential as required by state and federal regulations. Comprehensive evaluation may lead
to a finding that a child has special needs and is eligible for early intervention services.
Parents whose child may have special needs are assured due process protection by state and federal laws. More information about the rights of eligible young children can be requested by calling 1-800-770-4822, extension 1711, and asking for a supervisor or service coordinator. Parents from Bucks County who suspect that their preschool age child has special needs
should call the Early Childhood Services Program at 1-800-770-4822, extension 1716. Or e-mail the office at wadams@bucksiu.org. After a brief interview, a screening appointment will be scheduled.

Spotlight on Speech & Language Services
Preschool aged children undergo an incredible and complex process to learn to communicate. Babies first communicate with us through cries, coos, babbles, and then jargon. Jargon is a child's attempt to talk by using sentence structure, without real words.
Reading Time
Children need models to show them that reading is an enjoyable, lifelong activity.
Even though life is busy? try to show your child how much you enjoy reading. Even taking 5 minutes a couple of times a week to read a newspaper, magazine, etc. will make an impact.
