A professional staff of specialists works with students, parents, and school district personnel to assure the optimal development of each learner.

Speech and Language

 

 

The Bucks County Schools Intermediate Unit Speech/Language Program provides speech/language services to over 4,300 school age pupils. Communicatively disabled students of all exceptionalities and those pupils in regular education classes with speech or language handicaps are reflected in the students being served. The Speech/Language Program is integrated with district and other Intermediate Unit education programs, such as IST, as well as being responsible for a comprehensive therapy program involving language, voice, fluency, and phonological disorders.  Our services comprise pre-referral consultation, assessment and diagnosis, development and maintenance of an on-going instructional program.

Maximum Caseload: Not to exceed 65 students (Based on PA Regulations and Standards)

Students are instructed in the following areas:  All types of speech/language disorders involving language, voice, fluency, and  phonological deficits.

 

The Primary Goal is to:  Assist each speech/language disabled pupil to become communicatively competent in their educational and community environments.

  • Program Supervision and Management by State and Nationally Certified Speech/Language Pathologists
  • State Certified Speech/Language Consultants with Specialized Training for School-age Population

  • Participation in District IST, MDE and Child Study Teams
  • Development and Implementation of Individualized Speech/Language Program as Prescribed by IEP
  • Integration of Curricula with Speech/Language Services
  • Specialized Equipment, Technology, and Expertise Available
  • Consultants Participate in Training Programs to Remain Up-to-Date with Current Techniques
  • Variety of Service Models (individual and small group, classroom, consultation, etc.)
  • Assistive Technology Evaluations, Training, and Support for Communicatively Disabled Students
