Social Workers and Counselors
Help and Support
Our social workers and school counselors are trained and experienced professionals specially equipped to identify and address the social and psychological issues that may be hindering a child’s academic progress. Through counseling, crisis intervention, community resources, and prevention programs, our dedicated staff help children and youth overcome the difficulties in their lives so that they may have a better opportunity to succeed in school. Social workers and school counselors serve as a resource to school personnel, parents, and students regarding problem-solving, behavior management techniques, crisis intervention, and the development of strategies to teach appropriate social, behavioral and adaptive skills. To ensure we are addressing the whole child, we look to involve and facilitate collaboration amongst the school, the student, their family/guardians, and all appropriate service and community agencies.
As per the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association (PSCA) and the America School Counselors Association (ASCA) school counselors are certified professionals whose education provides them with unique qualifications to address the academic, career, and personal/social developmental needs of students.
For school-age Bucks IU classroom programs (kindergarten - grade 12, and Transition Programs for ages 18 - 21), these services are embedded in the program design and do not require any special request for services. Services for preschool students (ages three - five) can be assessed should a need be identified. Some school districts contract with us for part-time or full-time social workers and school counselors.
Working for the Student
Our social workers and school counselors consult, coordinate, partner, and advocate with the student’s team to ensure their success in the school setting. This process is boosted significantly by the excellent relationship we have with all our Bucks County school districts, with whom we work regularly and therefore have a greater knowledge of their services, allowing us to prescribe programs we know can be easily integrated. Our social workers and counselors work with the following professional organizations:
- National Association of Social Workers (NASW)
- American School Counselors Association (ASCA)
- American Counseling Association (ACA)
- National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC)
- Brain Injury Association (BIA)
Our staff are licensed or certified with:
- Pennsylvania State Certification in School Counseling K-12
- Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC)
- Certified Brain Injury Specialists (CBIS)
- Licensed Social Worker/Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LSW/LCSW)
- Home and School Visitor Certification (HSV)
SERVICES AND PROGRAMS
Early Childhood Programs
Student Services focus on the needs of the child; academically, emotionally, mentally, and physically. Many of our services must be contracted by the school district the child attends and cannot be set up directly with us. We are more than happy to see how we may be able to help you, or to direct you to the appropriate party in the school district. Please contact us.
