RBT Cohort 7 during a professional development day

Build your career in education with the Bucks IU

The Bucks County Intermediate Unit (Bucks IU) offers apprenticeship programs that help people gain experience, earn credentials, and advance their careers while working in our schools. These programs create opportunities for current staff and new educators to grow into roles that support Bucks County students with no out-of-pocket cost to them.

Bucks IU offers a cohort model for each apprenticeship that opens once per year for interested applicants. Interested applicants may apply through the Bucks IU's Careers site.

A pathway in action: Kristina's story

Kristina Mulhern began with the Bucks IU as an RBT Apprentice, supporting students in autistic support classrooms. She later continued her studies through the Bucks IU's Paraeducator Pathway Grant while gaining classroom experience on the job.

In spring 2026, Kristina received the Outstanding Registered Apprentice Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

Today, she is a Special Education Teacher Apprentice at the Bucks IU at Pearl S. Buck Elementary School and plans to become a fully certified Bucks IU teacher in spring 2027.
