Gifted Ed 101: Day One
Gifted Ed 101: Day One will focus on Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) regulations for Gifted Education as designated by Chapter 16 of the School Code. The following topics will be highlighted in Day One: Chapter 16 Regulations and Guidelines, characteristics of gifted learners, identification and evaluation processes and policies, development of Gifted Individual Education Plans (GIEPs), Notice of Recommended Assignments (NORAs), and district-level policy and procedures for staffing and programming.
• Participants will understand the role of Chapter 16 and its companion document, the PDE Gifted Education Guidelines.
• Participants will learn the components of a district-level identification and evaluation process for gifted learners. This competency includes universal screeners.
• Participants will learn the connection between evaluation, the gifted written report, the GIEP, and the NORA.
• Participants will learn the components of the GIEP including how to write academic-based GIEP goals.
