Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS): Accelerating the Performance of ALL Students

Student performance is impacted most directly by instruction. The critical elements of MTSS, when implemented with fidelity, all focus on increasing the impact of instruction on student outcomes. In addition, the MTSS framework emphasizes the integration of academic, behavior and social emotional learning in order to maximize the impact of instruction for ALL students. With this in mind, we know that the quality and impact of instruction in Tier 1 (General/Universal Education) is critical to the effectiveness of interventions in Tiers 2 and 3 as well as to the effectiveness of specially-designed instruction (SDI- Special Education). Therefore, the primary focus of the workshop will be on Tier I instruction and how to integrate such instruction across the Tiers. It will include strategies, schedules, universal design concepts, and a process for data-based decision-making to identify effective instructional strategies that support all three Tiers.
