Therapeutic Approaches in Art Education

For Common In-Service Day, November 2, 2021, based on the Bucks IU Visual Arts Advisory Council's recommendation, the Bucks IU is offering a VIRTUAL half-day session from 12:30pm to 3:00pm featuring the work of Dr. Lisa Kay, Associate Professor, Department Chair of Art Education & Community Practices and Program Head of Art Therapy, Temple University, entitled, THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES TO ART EDUCATION. Each participant will receive an asynchronous PD/Video Package which includes an eBook of Therapeutic Approaches to Art Education, a hard copy of the same book, three modules that include videos of Dr. Kay, and supporting resources.

We will introduce the PD/Video package to participants through 2.5 hours of workshop time. Participants will then "own” their PD/Video package to work through the three modules at their own pace.
    The Modules are as follows:

Module 1: Foundations and Intersections of Art Therapy and Art Education
      Module 2: Trauma-Informed Practice
Module 3: Taking Care of Others and Ourselves

For those participants interested in receiving an additional 5 Act 48 hours for completing the entire PD/Video package, additional information will be presented on November 2, 2021.

Participants will learn the similarities and differences between art therapy and art education.
Participants will learn the components of the PD/Video Self-paced package.
Participants will learn activities that can be used in art classrooms to support students emotional and behavioral well-being.
