Generation Z: Understanding substance use in their world and how to "meet them where they are at”

This presentation will look at the impact of substance use on our Generation Z youth. Participants will learn about current trends with substances, lingo and paraphernalia and the correlation between mental health concerns and substance use. We will address how to intervene with treatment resistant youth and students whose family is also experiencing addiction. We will explore the supports and services available to youth in school and within the community that address substance use and discuss how to navigate through challenges in accessing those services.

Identify current trends in substance use.
Describe the role of prevention, early intervention, treatment, and recovery support services.
Learn intervention strategies with youth who are resistant to treatment or in denial about their addiction.
Understand the purpose of Student Assistance Programs and how they can support youth.
