ParaEd: Everything a Paraeducator Needs to Know about the Science of Reading

What is the science of reading (SOR), what is all the buzz about, and what does it all mean for you as a paraprofessional? What Every Paraprofessional Needs to Know About the Science of Reading thoroughly addresses each of these questions and much more in this highly engaging and interactive session.

SYNCHRONOUSContent will be presented through a live Zoom meeting. Please create a Zoom account with your full first and last name in advance and make sure your software is up to date. Participants will receive an email from the presenter with the Zoom link at least 24 hours in advance. This communication will be sent to the email address associated with your MLP/Frontline account. In order to receive credit for participation, your Zoom name needs to be complete and accurate (you may need to rename at the start of the meeting, in place of using a phone number) and you will need to complete a Google Exit Ticket.

Participants will:

    Developing an understanding of key concepts learned from scientifically based reading research.
    Applying research demonstrating the positive effects of supplemental instruction based on the science of reading by paraprofessionals to daily remedial instruction.
    Learning supplemental instructional practices to reinforce phonological awareness, phonics, and fluency skills.
